Cultivating allotments to foster belonging

Along the River Ter in Salt, Girona, more than 400 farmers cultivate 304 small plots of land. The Salt Living Lab is leading an agroecological transition to create a local food system that is healthy, inclusive, and community-driven. Through multicultural place-making, underused allotments are being reimagined as vibrant green spaces for production, leisure, and connection. Co-creation workshops bring residents and horticulturists together to build shared spaces of value and belonging.

By connecting cultural diversity, local food, and shared spaces, Salt’s Living Lab strengthens the landscape and the social fabric of the town.
