Teviot Living Lab

EAST LONDON, UK

At Teviot Estate, East London, food waste becomes energy, fertiliser, and fresh produce, powering a circular community

From waste to energy to food

The London Living Lab transforms a community space at the Teviot Estate into a micro-scale circular food system. A micro anaerobic digester turns 100kg of local food waste each day into biofertiliser and energy, used to power a rooftop hydroponic farm and community kitchen.

How it Works

  1. Residents bring food waste
  2. The digester produces biofertiliser + renewable energy
  3. Hydroponic garden grows fresh produces
  4. The community kitchen & food co-op use the food

Goals

Build a closed-loop circular food model

Create green jobs and training opportunities

Encourage behaviour change toward recycling and seasonal eating

Connect residents, schools, and local organisations
