REDESIGN KoM Press Release

Dortmund Living Lab Salt Living Lab Teviot Living Lab

From Policy to Plate. Takeaways from the REDESIGN Kick-Off Meeting

The REDESIGN project officially kicked off in Bologna, marking the start of an exciting journey towards transforming urban food systems. Funded by Horizon Europe, REDESIGN is rethinking the way cities approach food sustainability by integrating urban agriculture, climate resilience and community participation into urban planning.

For three days, experts, researchers and innovators from Europe and beyond (New Zealand) came together to exchange ideas and lay the foundations for the years to come. At the core of it all? A shared aim to deliver innovative solutions in three Living Labs, real-life testing grounds located in Dortmund, Salt and Teviot, where sustainable food strategies will be developed in collaboration with local communities. The project is also committed to defining an innovative Learning Loop methodology, ensuring that food system innovations are continually cross-tested, refined and scaled up effectively.

The University of Bologna, the project coordinator, hosted the partners in the beautiful setting of Serra Madre, in the middle of the Margherita Gardens. All the participants engaged in lively discussion strategically defining the objectives and future goals of the project, focusing on pushing the boundaries of food innovation, developing effective policies as well as collaboration with Sister Project (Bauhaus Bites) and other New European Bauhaus initiatives were discussed.

REDESIGN is now ready to move from ideas to action, steering concrete solutions and developing policies that will redefine urban food systems. Stay tuned: this is just the beginning!
