The REDESIGN Project held its First General Assembly Meeting (GAM) in Girona, Spain, hosted by Universitat de Girona and Associació Milfulles, in close coordination with the Department of Agricultural and Food Sciences – University of Bologna, the project coordinator. The three-day meeting marked a key milestone in REDESIGN’s mission to rethink and transform urban food systems across Europe and beyond.Over three days, consortium members gathered to review progress, exchange ideas, and define next steps across all work packages. Sessions focused on communication, strategic synergies between research activities, and the development of REDESIGN’s three Living Labs in Dortmund (Germany), Salt (Spain), and Teviot (UK).

Experiencing food sustainability first-hand

Day 2 brought participants outdoors for an immersive visit to the Salt Orchards. Guided by Associació Milfulles and the Universitat de Girona, the consortium experienced first-hand the values at the heart of the REDESIGN project.

Participants explored wild green areas, harvested herbs and flowers, and prepared dishes together using freshly picked ingredients: a hands-on demonstration of the sustainable food practices REDESIGN aims to promote.

Laying the groundwork for the future

The agenda included targeted workshops on inspirational case assessments within the RED-N and FVF networks, interlinkages between work packages, and methodologies for network analysis and communication strategies. The consortium also discussed the production of the REDESIGN documentary, which will capture the project’s evolving story and impact across its three Living Labs.

“Our 1st General Assembly Meeting in Girona last week was an extremely productive three days of workshops, strategic discussions, and forward planning that left me quite optimistic about the road ahead. Thank you to all partners for the excellent work accomplished so far, for their continued commitment.”

Michele D’Ostuni, Project Coordinator, University of Bologna.

As the meeting concluded, partners reflected on the milestones achieved so far and looked ahead to the Second General Assembly Meeting, scheduled to take place in the United Kingdom in 2026.

REDESIGN continues to build momentum in rethinking urban food systems by integrating urban agricultureclimate resilience, and community participation into the design of sustainable cities.
